What happens next?

I think Francine Prose is trying to get us to infer about what is going to happen. Now that Swenson knows where Anglea’s head is at as the audience I would infer that he will try to take care of the situation. He will try to avoid pretty much everything Anglea has written in her writing. He will not contact his superiors and will try to handle it on his own. He also knows that he has to do it in a way in which she won’t be hurt because she’s expressed her past with depression.
