Len and Angela
I found Swenson and Lens interaction together in New York to be interesting. What surprised me the most was how Len advised Swenson to sleep with Angela. When I read that interaction I immediately understood the type of character Len was and despised him. I then realized how my opinion of Len was hypocritical and contradictory. Swenson has already slept with Angela at this point in the story, and I haven't thought less of him for it, even though I would towards someone if it happened in real life. American film and literature has taught me to always be sympathetic of the main character. This taught me to look at Swenson from a different perspective. I also found it interesting how Swenson denied that he has, or would think of sleeping with Angela to Len. Even to someone who supports the idea of sleeping with a student, Swenson still denies that it ever happened. This could mean he feels guilty about this on a much deeper level than just personal. Before it seemed like sleeping with Angela only bothered him because of how the consequences of his actions would affect his personal life. Now it seems Swenson struggles with the moral and ethical dilemmas aswell.

I'm so happy with the way Swenson wife attacked him I wish she had slap him with the knife but unfortunately she didn't 🙄🙄🙄🙄.... He's so crazy to really believe that she was going to stay with him after everything that he did to her and his family it's also crazy tht his wife been watching him and because of how far up Angela's ass his head was he didn't even notice .... Such a crazy man and it's amusing how he really want Angela to take all the blame 🙂🙂🙂 He's a grown man he knew what he was doing you clearly didn't slip and fall between her legs ....... This whole big was crazy but very interesting ❤️
The poem I turned in today for group critiques is about passion. My topic is ''Love" and being judged by others because the way I look and not the person I'm. My character is a black minority that has dreams to become someone successful and be someone important in the world but being black is a big issue in the country she lives in. She will not give up and that nothing comes easy in life, you have to fight what's right.

Blue angel response
The relationship between Angela and Swenson has completely taken a turn and now Swenson is no longer respected in the eyes of Angela. Angela can ruin his life easily and he can ruin her grade easily there is now a even amount of power. Now Angela seems to be using Swenson to gain connections and Swenson has no way of asking for advice on the situation. Swenson is in a tough position and has only himself to blame.
Class Discussion pg.186
I believe this scene is important because the readers, as well as Swenson, are finally getting to see Angela’s true color. Swenson feel as if Angela was only using you him for her own personal gain. Now that I’ve read this I actually feel this way too. The way she was friendly and cozy without swenson in the earlier chapters was just a ploy. She was attempting to make herself seem vulnerable and like a desperate writer who can’t seem to get by. Ultimately, Swenson feel into her trap. Now in this scene her persona has changed. She’s approaching Swenson like he’s someone of her age group, talking to him disrespectfully and she’s also becoming aggressively possessive. She was literally jumping down Swenson’s throat for not calling her to talk about her writing. Now that they’ve had sex she feels like as if he owns her something in return.
In Class Reading Responce
Swenson and Angela are having a conversation. Angela is upset because Swenson did not call her. The conversation escalates and Angela asks Swenson to show his editor some of her work. Swenson wonders if Angela has any ulterior motives for asking this of him. He’s worried she might be using him for her own personal gain. This is important to the novel because Swenson thought that Angela actually liked him which is one of reasons why he slept with her. So if she was just using him this whole time he just risked it all for a lie.
Class discussion
It’s really interesting how Angela seems to ignore the gestures Swanson is making to her. As we were reading along I remembered the scene where Angelas mother told Swanson about the phone calls she didn’t answer from boy & at that moment we were just reading about the same thing I had thought about LOL. In my opinion I think Angela is only using Swanson to publish her work but she is doing a great job at still making him think that she’s into him once she starts asking why didnt he call her. It kinda made her look needy for him when in reality she was mad that he did not call so she wouldn’t answer the phone.
Pg 185( class discussion)
i believe that this scene is extremely important in the novel because it comes to show what Angela’s true intentions are. I dont think that she ever liked or had a crush on Swensen. She knew that she could manipulate him into thinking this, though. In this scene we learn that what Angela really wants is for the professor to show a couple of pages of her novel to Len and see if she could get her own work published. This scene is also important because Swensen starts to see what her intentions were and is most likely wishing that he disnt risk his life and marriage to be with a student who was just teying to get ahead & let him have sex with her to get ahead.
Blue Angel Response
This scene is where Swenson questions the ends that Angela is chasing, whether she is intimately interested in him or if she just wants to use him, or both. Swenson also speaks about the entirety of his relationship and how someone would react to it. He compares it to that of a criminal, which foreshadows that he might be interrogated or something in the future. Furthermore, Swenson even expresses disgust and guilt as he speaks of it, which shows his work ethic was cometely incorrect in the way he’s maintained himself. If he did not feel strongly towards Angela, he would not have to be reluctant and careful in how he spoke to Magda. I believe that he’s realized that he’s being baited by Angela but it’s too late as she already has Swenson wrapped around her finger. He also recalls what her mother said, comparing him to the guys she would fawn over and then completely ignore.
Blue angel
This scene in the book is placed to foreshadow what’s going to happen next when he sees his editor. When he goes to New York, Len seems very different to Swenson from his mannerisms down to his thought process. When they sit down to talk bout the novel Lenn says he doesn’t care bout the girl or the novel , but instead encourages Swesons to go have sex with Angela and have a whole line of questioning surrounding that topic. I find this interesting because of the conflict between how these two think and the guilt Swenson has for the obsession of a student. Even when Lenn tells him it’s ok and he’s surprised he “hasn’t” had sex with her , Swenson doesn’t build the courage to confess what he’s been doing .
Class discussion page 185-190
I believe that Angela knew from the beginning exactly what she was doing. She knew she had potential and wanted to get her work out there at any cost. Unfortunately, Swenson didn’t see this coming from her and he gave in to temptation. Swenson somewhat falls in love with Angela and is trying to talk about the time they had sex but Angela only cares about the pages she has given to him and that if he read them and edited them. This hurts Swenson because he thought he had something special going on. This also make him think if Angela was just using him from the beginning just for his profession connections with Len.

Blue angel pgs185-190
I believe this scene is important to the story because Swenson could be foreshadowing something from what he’s thinking or he could just be over worrying. From this scene the story can take different turns and surprise a reader.
From what we just read in class, I think Swenson is trying to figure out why Angela is being so cold to him. He wonders what happened to the girl who said he was her savior and now he’s looking at a girl who’s being so rude to him. Since he had sex with her, I think he’s figuring out that she’s going to stop chasing him or she’s just using him. I think he wants to talk about what’s going to happen with them now that they’ve had sex, but since she’s not showing interest, he has no one to turn to.
Blue angel pg182-190 class discussion
In this scence I think swedson seem little bit confuse by Angela's emotions abouth there situation with having sex with her like does she feel some way abouth it or not and he's even questioning himself is she just using him to get her novel out there in the world or really had some type crush on him .
Importance of the scene
this scene is important because Swenson is starting to question everything. He’s beginning to realize that Angela might just be using him, although he’s still a bit oblivious. Swenson is also starting to feel guilt and scared. He knows that he’s the one that will lose everything if his relationship gets found out. He questions everything about there relationship and whether or not anything Angela has told him is true. Although he’s starting to realize he’s still holding on to Angela.
The scene is about swenson trying to figure or what is going on in his life. He is having doubts about what he has done with Angela. It almost feels like that he is going backwards in their relationship. Even though it is between them is weird, it is sad for him. He is feeling like he was just being used
Class 2/26
In this scene Swenson continues to go back and forth regarding Angela being attracted to him or just using him for the novel. He seems to be leaning towards being used. He doesn’t understand why she acts like it never happened but why it did? He’s trying to read in between the lines. But is so focused on being attracted to her!

No wonder our professor kept saying the teacher had more power because after he had sex with Angela and she was being rude he was thinking about failing her ..... Like I'm literally in tears laughing at this professor and how disrespectful Angela is towards him now 😂😂😂😂 this girl never gave a damn in the beginning and she's blaming him for every single thing 😅😅😅 not calling her....what a crazy dude 🙄
Blue Angel, Week 4
There is an interesting moment on pp. 227-233 where Swenson takes
Ruby to buy a computer at the same store where he took Angela on the day
that he had sex w/ her. Look over this scene again and remind yourself
of how you felt. I felt very tense reading it, but maybe you felt
differently?

- Ruby hasn't been introduced until pretty late in the novel. Why do you think that is? How does her presence affect your reading of the novel?

i am intrigued to know how the author will keep us interested in the novel after we find out that swensen sleeps with Angela. i am also interested in finding out if his wife finds out what he did and what she will do. i know that things like these go one of two ways, they either forgive you and move on or the entire family just breaks up. i want to see what his daughter will think of hm because they are very close in age which would make me feel even more uncomfortable if it were me.
to me it was very interesting to see how when you do something that you know you should not be doing nothing goes as planned. we can see that because the professor had sex with Angela he was gritting his teeth so hard that his molar broke. I took that as something that he deserved. i dont believe that he had any reason to cheat on his wife. While we read we can tell that she is a woman that genuinely cares about him. She listens to his daily rants, she cooks for him, she takes care of him, and the list goes on. i dont think that he truly cares about his wife bcause you dont try to hurt or destroy the person that you love. love s patient, kind and forgiving but i dont think that in a relationship you should have to forgive your partner for cheating on you. when people cheat they should definetly think about the consequences and they should keep in mind that eventually their partners will find out. As for Swensen, he should be preppared for his wife to find out and accept the consequences of his wife finding out. I beieve that after being married to someone for so long this just is not fair to her, i imagine she will be devestated.

Swenson doesn't seem to realize he's falling for Angela's trap because he's so focus on her. I find it amusing even after everything people have said to him about this girl he still seem to be blinded by her lies. SUCH A WEIRDO!!!!! He puts his whole family and life on the lie for a girl that's definitely gonna turn around and destroy him ..... I have no pity for him

Class Discussion on Blue Angel Dialogue
In this scene, through the dialogue we get bits and pieces of Angela’s life through her parents. Swenson observes Angela’s parents and thinks/asks a variety of questions to make connections to Angela’s novel: “Eggs.” In the earlier chapters, Swenson was going crazy trying to understand whether Angela’s novel was a story about his life or life. In her novel there were details about a doctor, a moody wife and teacher-student affair that made Swenson suspicious of whether Angela was writing a fictional story. What drove him over the edge even more was when he came across details about the wife or the heroine’s mother has a ear infection and in
Class discussion
Through the talking with Angela’s parents, Swenson has the deeper understanding of Angela’s daily life and it is so much different than she shows to him usual. Swenson might obsessed and wants to know more about Angela later after the coversation with her parents.
Blue angel-parent conference
At this point in the novel Swenson is obsessed with Angela. Her stories that seem to connect directly to him and her mysterious past makes him wonder a lot about who she really is and how real are her stories. This obsession led to him almost using the parent teacher conference as a way to non-creepily
Get information on her. The mother seems oblivious throughout the conference but the father seems very annoyed or kinda in a rush to leave. As he leaves he makes the same mistake with the door like Angela did and Swenson comes to the conclusion that he is in fact Angela’s father.

Class discussion
I think that Angela lied to Swanson in regards to her father committing suicide as an excuse for her to get close to him and it worked because somehow Swanson felt symphaty towards Angela and decided from there to read her chapters. Once Swanson meeting with the parents and hearing that the story was a true base story that happened to Angelas friends it had me thinking that she was probeably a victim of the Biology teacher or that she seduced him & later on he felt like he could do that to other students.
Blue Angel pg132-136
Swenson is troubled because when he meets Angela’s parents he is confused on wether Angela’s father is still alive or not. He is also concerned with the fact that Angela has had friends in her previous school who have had an intimate relationship with their teachers. Angela May not have had one herself so that’s probably why Angela does have sex with Swenson. To build an intimate relationship with him.
Blue Angel pg 134
I think that this scene is very akward for both Swensen and Angela’s parents. Swensen is trying his best to make it seem that he is uninterested in Angela’s life, he tries a little too hard. I don’t believe that the mother noticed but the father seems to catch on to the little things more than the mother. There are a coupoe of instances where he akwardly looks at Swensen and when the parents find out the topic of her novel they seemed a bit worried. I think that this is a key scene to realize that Swensen actually does have feelings for Angela and that he is a lot more interested in her life and her past than he wants everyone or even himself to know. As akward as it may seem, to me it was like the parents knew that something was off or at least the dad which is why he kept on looking at Swensen so much.
Dialogue
The dialogue between Angela Argo’s parents and Swenson reveals the past of Angela’s high school and it’s significance is that it makes Swenson, who is already an avid overthinker, overthink even more. We can see how Swenson scurries to ask questions about Angela but he is constantly cut off by Angela’s father. The dialogue is rather simple too, it seems like a normal conversation between the parents and Swenson. But, in this dialogue, it is also influenced by the third point of view, as we are given or hinted the state of minds of the parents and Swenson. Angela’s mom is seemingly gullible and easily tricked, while her father/stepfather is shown to be clumsy and aggressive.
Page 132 PTC
At the parent teachers conference the professor seems fascinated on the parents correlation to Angela and especially on how the father acts. While the conversations are going , he keeps in his mind how the father resembles Angela and if he is the biological father. Also sweanson , has this conflict if he should inform the parents on the personal relationship he has with Angela. I see this with the hesitation of asking personal questions about her boyfriend, the real father etc
In Class Reading
The dialogue between Swenson and Angela’s parents. Swenson is trying to find out if the father is her real father or her stepfather and whether or not the real father killed himself. He can’t just ask the parents cause it would raise suspicion. He wants to know if Angela has been lying to him. The parents give some insight to Angela’s character. She would show interest in a boy and when that interest was reciprocated it would turn her off.
Dialogue
I think what’s happening in this part is Angela’s lies are unraveling. Swenson catches on that Angela lied about her biological father killing himself when she was a teenager. Swenson was also really interested with everything her parents were saying about Angela and her childhood. However he couldn’t ask any questions because it would have seemed weird for a teacher to ask about there students personal life. Although he couldn’t directly ask anything he still was able to find out that Angela biological father was in fact alive. Her entire story was a lie
Parent Conference
In this back and forth dialogue, I think Swenson tries to use this opportunity to try to get as much information about Angela as possible. He is asking questions not directly but in a way her is not obvious. As well are the parents. The parents are asking questions to see what is going on with Angela. They indirectly are trying to see what Angela has been up to. As if there was no communication occurring between Angela and her parents.

Blue Angel, Week 3
Several of you have expressed the desire that Swenson won't sleep w/
Angela Argo. And yet he does. How did you react when you read that
scene? Were you surprised? Why or why not?
Other questions:
Other questions:
- Swenson thinks after the sex scene, "Chicken soup! The adulterer's wife cooks him chicken soup. You couldn't get away with writing a scene so obvious and corny..." (177). And yet Prose is writing that scene right there. Does she get away with it? Why or why not?
- The sex scene is a kind of fulcrum, a point that pivots everything else. We've been heading toward this moment for over 100 pp and then it happens and changes everything. How do you see Swenson, Sherrie, and Angela now? What has changed?
- After Swenson reads the sex scene in Angela's novel, he feels determined to prove that he's not the music teacher in her book, that he's better. What do you think?
- What does the broken tooth symbolize?
- Now that the sex has happened, what do you predict will happen next? (If you've read ahead, don't give it away for those who haven't.)
- What questions do you have?

It is very interesting to se how alike both Professor Rath and Professor Swenson are alike. They are both very successful at what they do! They are both happily married, and yet they find a way to lose it all! Throughout both stories you can witness the shift in power and as it changes drastically. The two stories are almost like a mirror.

In this scene I believe that Lola is flirting with the professor and they develop some kind of attraction for each other. Lola was applying make-up on her face and showing her legs to the professor when he dropped the cigarette and she saw it as an opportunity to get his attention when he was under the table. I feel as if the professor was nervous around Lola but tried to hide it by keeping his composure. I think he was nervous at how she was openly flaunting herself to him and he may have found it unexpected although he likes her.
The blue angels
In the the film, the professor Rath gets into a place of Lola Lola. When he goes into this place, he sees an another professor is surprised and welcomes him to come in. However, professor is obsessing with Lola. The different characteristic is the basis of the tragedy that happened in the end of the film. Also, there is the comparison between the beginning and the ending of the film. In the beginning of the film the students are sitting in the class and the class is light. But in contrast, the class is empty and none of the students is sitting, and the class is dark. It seems Rath lost everything,
Class Discussion on "The Blue Angel" (Movie)
In this scene, I think Keipert, the manager, and the others aren't actually surprised to see the professor back at the club cause they knew he'd come back as Lola has a history with men. In another part of the movie, Lola had stated that when men attempt to leave her, they usually come back. In this sense, the Professor did come back to see Lola even though he didn't want to admit it. The first time they encountered, I believe he took her undergarments as an excuse to come back and see her again. When the professor entered the room she asked if he came back to see her or not. His body language must've gave her an impression that he did hence why she pulled up an extra chair to her vanity and took off his outerwear so he can get comfortable so they can flirt later on in the scene. This is similar to parts in the book where Angela would give Swenson an orange envelope of her writings to she'll have an excuse to see Swenson repeatedly. In both situations, the female character is manipulating the men and making them uneasy. Yet, both male characters seem to enjoy the rush the female characters give them hence why they continue to make bad decisions.

During the scene we just watched, the professor seemed to be very nervous around the young lady but i think it is due to the actions and his behavior when he seen her before. Everyone around them was being very nosy and all up in their business trying to figure out whats going to happen to the girl or even just trying to see what they're talking about. The female is acting calm but showing off her body to the professor like its appropriate when they both know its not.
Blue Angel
In the scene that we viewed in class, Lola was flirting with the professor and he was uncomfortable or somewhat nervous. The three students that were hiding in the cellar were trying not to get caught but are also very intrigued by whats going on the the professor and Lola. Also the clown was very random but it a sign of foreshadowing. It symbolizes the future and what he would be like cause he replaced the old clown.

During this scene we see the professor step way out of his comfort zone when he re-enters the theater to return Lola's pants/garments. Part of him knows he shouldn't be there and shouldn't have been there in the first place yet he is beginning to be attracted to the environment. He stops fighting the urge as much as he did the first time he went there and almost unconsciously listened to Lola tell him to sit down and stay. There is something about that environment that he is beginning to feel has been missing from his life.

IN CLASS MOVIE SCENE
I think that Lola Lola was happy to see the professor again because she has never meet a man that wasn't just there to see her as a sex figure although the professor was very nervous but he went there with the intention of apologizing to her and giving her back the garment he accidentally took home. I guess later she wanted to flirt with him.
Blue Angel
I was absent on Tuesday but from the intro I can see the man with the "cape" around him is a professor and the woman is a student. It looks like she is trying to seduce the professor for something in her gain. He said they were with each other the other day, but he seems jittery and uncomfortable when getting too close to her. From her persistence on trying to get him to stay with her it seems shes trying to manipulate him for her own gain. Now knowing it is connected to the novel I can see the connection between the story
Blue Angel Scene
In the scene where the Professor is alone with the dancer, it seems to be that he is nervous. He sits next to her and just smiles. He likes her but he doesn't know what to say. She tries to get him to have a full conversation but he can't talk. He is in shock that he sitting next to this girl. It is almost odd to see two grown people sit there and just have this awkwardness towards each other. She is not as exactly awkward towards him but he is just like star struck. As if he really can't believe that this is happening.
In Class Scene Discussion
The scene that was just watched was the beginning of the down fall of the professor. The first sparks that were had between the professor and Lola, the woman who's relationship with him ruined his live, were made here. An interesting moment was when the sad clown holding flowers walked by in front of them, without saying any lines. The clown served as foreshadowing for the professor. This is true not only in a way where he took his job, but in a way how the professor feels about himself. He the relationship with Lola reduced him into a clown not only in a literal sense but in a metaphorical one as well.
I believe that the professor was charmed by her looks and used the excuse of returning the garments to see her one more time. This time though, he wasnt infuriated and wasnt looking for is students, he solely came with the purpose of seeing her. He was a bit ashamed for his previous behavior and couldnt resist being around her.
Movie Responce
The professor returns to give the lady her garment which he took by accident. The entire time he is there the woman is flirting with him. The professor seems confused but i think he knows what she is doing. He could leave anytime he wants but he doesn't.
I believe that in this scene Lola is trying to seduce the professor. We can clearly see that Lola makes the professor nervous, Lola is aware of this fact and tries to take advantage of the situation. i do not think that Lola sincerely likes the professor i think she just wanted to see how far she could get with him and he was very easy to manipulate and very gull-able. As a middle aged man he spent most of his time at the college and never really had time to find love. at this point he was desperate and was willing to even try giving someone like Lola a chance.
Scene
The importance of that scene is probably to give the viewers an idea of when the pair started developing attraction for each other. It is also the scene that first shows them actually interacting and talking to each other in private. This scene is most likely the beginning of there attraction. I say attraction and not love because they didn't fall in love. Even up until the last scene and there five years of marriage they didn't love each other, they actually fell out of attraction as well. The scene is like the definition of don't get involved with someone so quickly.
The Blue Angel
During the scene it seems Lola was trying to seduce professor Rath by asking him questions, making him respond to her with a compliment. Also, the clown was looking at the professor in very wired smile. Its like he knows was going to happen to him when Lola get his hands on him. Just like in the ending, clown was replaced by the professor.
Scene from Blue Angel
Lola Lola and the rest of the workers at the Blue Angel greeted the Professor in a nice way and they bring him in, openly. They give him peace and quiet with Lola Lola and this causes him to be swept by the gaze and the treatment he received from them. He felt as if they would always give him that respect and he would be treated with dignity. Later, he has the same sad expression that the clown has when he is dressed as a clown. This counters his previous thoughts and he became delirious and crazy, to the extent he attacked everyone. Unlike the beginning of the movie, where he attacked the captain of the ship for mistreating Lola, he attacked Lola for relatively cheating on him. I believe that, at this point, he knew he made a bad inference and he knew that he would never be able to uplift himself again. Thoughts like these lead him to go to the classroom so where he appears to die.
scene for blue angkel
In this scene she was doing what ever she could to seduce the professor to like her even more then he did already.so she could use him in the end to do whatever she wanted .
Blue angel scene
I believe that what’s happening in the scene we saw today in class is that the professor is sort of oblivious to what is truly going on. Lola is flirting with the professor and he’s not catching on to what she’s trying to do. He seems confused while she’s trying to get intimate. I believe that the movie is trying to represent how women are manipulative and take advantage of men.
In this scene I believe that she was trying to seduce him and get him to really like her maybe love and he was falling for every bit of it ...... He didn't seem to know exactly how to control his self his students kept peeping in and he didn't even notice because he was so blinded by her beauty (or maybe just a straight clown)
The Blue Angel
There's so much in this scene. Where to begin?
There's the clown who always floats around the scene, looking like an angel of death, a depressed prediction of what Prof. Rath will one day become. There is the moment on the floor where we have Dietrich disembodied, becoming just her legs, like meat for the consumption of men. There is the fact that his students are spying on him so though he's falling in love, he's viewed as pathetic and contemptible by the rest of the world (prefiguring when he becomes a literal clown at the end of the film).

blue angel 3/11/19
Now that we are halfway into the book, I begin to feel a little sympathy for Swenson. He seems to me like hes just going through a midlife crisis that's causing him to make the wrong decisions. He's happily married to his wife who's not only a successful nurse but also an amazing cook. He seems to have a perfect life so why would he want to get involved with a troublesome girl that's half his age. The only thing that really makes sense is that he's going through his midlife crisis and he's beginning to feel bored of his perfect life. Only someone going through a mid-life crisis is willing to throw everything they have away. I feel sympathy for him because he's going to end up losing everything. I'm really looking foward to finishing up this book.

Blue Angel and The Blue Angel
This week, we'll screen The Blue Angel, the classic German
film by Josef von Sternberg. I believe that you'll see some thematic and
narrative similarities between this film and Francine Prose's novel. As
you're aware by now, Prose's novel and Ted Swenson's first novel are
both named after von Sternberg's film. The professor is played by a
giant of German silent and sound cinema, Emil Jannings. But the truly
huge star in the film was Marlene Dietrich who plays Lola Lola, the
cabaret performer. Dietrich was an unknown at the time (she has second
billing to Sternberg), but this is the film that made her a star. She
was an international film actress, singer, and sex symbol.
The Blue Angel takes place in Weimer Republic Germany between WWI and II. Berlin, where the film is set, was a haven of liberalism and sexual freedom in the 1920s-30s, esp. in the cabaret culture dramatized in the film.
Some questions that I have:

Some questions that I have:
- Lola Lola is one of the classic femme fatales of cinema. In what ways does Angela Argo seem similar to her?
- In the film, the professor gets into a scuffle w/ a ship captain over Lola Lola. What is the purpose of this scene? Why does Lola seem to be attracted to the professor, esp. since she's so much younger? At what point does she fall out of love w/ him? How would you connect their relationship to Swenson and Angela's?
- What do you make of the relationships that Swenson has w/ other women in his life: his wife, his daughter, Magda? In that lunch scene w/ Magda (pp. 76-84) why do neither seem to be hungry? In what ways are those relationships different than the one he is developing w/ Angela?
- What did you think about the fact that Ted reads Angela's "dirty" poems and then immediately goes and has sex w/ his wife?
- What questions do you have about the film or the novel?

Group Work
This week was helpful. I think meeting with Mr.T was the most helpful cause he gave me the most insight on whats wrong with my writing and how i should structure and collect my ideas. I now have all my writing together and ready to put my collection together.

CLASS DISCUSSION
What I think will happen next in the story is that the professor will start to have affection towards Angela Argo. The book describes how while reviewing her work they almost touched heads. But i believe Angela has a reason for her sudden approach to the professor, and that is she wants him to have an attraction towards her. It would be beneficial to her because it can be used to perfect her story of the gym teacher crush.👀
During the reading in class, it seemed a little odd the way Angela left slamming the door shut and then returned to apologize to Prof. Swenson. Afterwords, the reaction of Prof. Swenson listening closely the way Angela walked down the stairs. It seemed that Angela got a little uncomfortable with talking more on a personal level, based on her novel she wrote about her father, and Swenson can relate to situation.
Blue Angel
In the section that we read in class I think that Prose is hinting that there will be a relationship forming between Sewnson and Angela. In the book it hints that she feels comfortable with Swenson talking about things like how both their dads committed suicide. Even though Angela seems likes she’s comfortable Swenson seems uncomfortable, for example when they were waking to class he was afraid of walking to close to her and have people thinking that they are holding hands.
Blue angel class discussion
The author is foreshadowing that professor Swenson is catching on to the poems true meaning and realizes that the poem is about a student having a crush on a teacher. He begins to provide advice on her stories now and starts questioning them now. They begin to connect more and slowly become sort of connected. The person he might be calling might be a connection he has so he can have a further analysis on her poem.
Class Discussion on “Blue Angel”
In the last few pages of the section assigned, I think Prose is hinting that an intimate relationship will begin to flourish between Swenson and Angela in the next chapters. At first Swenson was hesitant about giving Angela advice on her novel but as he read a part of her novel that dealt with a student having a crush on a teacher striked his interest. As he comes to an end he realizes that this is a student’s work and questions when Angela has written the story as he may think the story may be about her and her possible feelings toward Swenson. He then calls his editor in hopes that her work is plagiarized and not a factual story as it could be possible that Angela is confessing her feelings toward Swenson, and Swenson wants to prevent stepping over that student-teacher boundary as sexual harassment is a big topic going around in the college and he also doesn’t want to hurt his wife that he dearly loves and admires.
What happens next
Based on what we have read so far I think Angela and Swenson will start interacting more often with each other. The way Angela approaches Swenson seems off to me because she seems to be trying to hard to get close with Swenson. I also feel like Angela has a motive for trying to be so close to him. I also think Swenson is becoming to close with Angela as well because he answers a lot of personal questions that most professors probably wouldn’t tell there students. Also during the last scene where he called up someone I think he’s calling to introduce Angela’s work to get it published
What happens next?
I think Francine Prose is trying to get us to infer about what is going to happen. Now that Swenson knows where Anglea’s head is at as the audience I would infer that he will try to take care of the situation. He will try to avoid pretty much everything Anglea has written in her writing. He will not contact his superiors and will try to handle it on his own. He also knows that he has to do it in a way in which she won’t be hurt because she’s expressed her past with depression.
Blue angel
I feel like the author foreshadows that Angela one of Swenson’s students will try to convey her feelings for her teacher and that he’ll have an affair with his wife.
Prose
I think Francine is trying to give hints to her teacher that she has a crush on him. From the way she talks to him and acts around him to the stories she gave it seems like small hints towards her feelings for him. With the last sentence on page 62 in the that story it seemed like he was shock and finally connected it together. Even though it’s not the professors fault he is responsible for stopping any action like that coming from a student and he seems like he’s letting her do this with no intention to end it
Blue Angel pages 56-62
I think that Swenson suspects that the work that Angela Argo presented to him has been plagiarized or something of the sort because he does not expect a student novel to make him feel so much joy in reading. He probably would expect a student novel to be less interesting and more boring. I believe he’s calling Len Currie to report or ask if a novel similar to Angela’s exists.

I just wanna know if I'm the only person that can't seem to stand Professor Ted Swenson in this novel ????? And believes Angela Argo is such a crazy manipulative student that seems to use people to get what she wants and the moment you can't she will do anything to break you ????? But I'm not so sorry for this professor he will definitely think next time before getting involved with a girl not even half his age 🙄🙄🙄 ......She definitely didn't hesitate to break him
Beginning Fiction: Blue Angel
Ted Swenson is a writer-in-residence at a liberal arts college in New
England. It's a small town and everyone--not just the other faculty and
students, but a waitress at a restaurant and the owner of the
bookstore--know him and make assumptions about him, namely that he is
working on his third novel. However, we, the readers of this
novel, know something different. What does it tell us about this
protagonist that he is teaching students how to write fiction and he no
longer writes it himself?
Other questions:
Other questions:
- What do you think of his relationship w/ Angela Argo so far? His relationship w/ his wife? With his daughter? With his colleagues?
- What is the point-of-view of this novel and how does that affect the way you're reading it?
- Based on what you've read so far, what do you expect to happen?
- What questions do you have so far?

Blue Angel pg.1-7
As we have to read pages 1-63 of Blue Angel, I started earlier and the first few pages that I've read were confusing to me because it talks a lot about beastiality. I thought the story was being told from Swenson's point of view but as I read it over, I noticed that he mentions "stories about humans having sex with animals". I'm assuming that the main topic of the story currently (for pages 1-7; I've only read 1-7 so far) will be stories about beastiality?
I don't want to be rude but what a weird and disgusting topic, this doesn't really bore me as much as it evokes a feeling of disgust from me.

- These are, according to Gioia and Lehman the "best" poems of 2018. Can you generalize about what it takes to write a "best" poem? What did you learn about poetry over the last few weeks? How did these readings confirm, or challenge, your previous feelings about poetry? I learnt that poems are difficult extremely and it takes a open mind and a dictionary to understand what its saying most of the times. I believe it doesn't take much to write a "best poem". It was a challenge to read most of these poems it was very hard.
- Which poem was your favorite? My favorite poem was love poem: chimera
- Which poem did you struggle w/ the most ? I struggled until we had an open discussion to hear others view on the poem yonder, a rental
- Kay Ryan's poem, "Some Transcendent Addiction to the Useless" quotes from critic George Steiner's The Poetry of Thought in her title. It's my understanding that Steiner argues that truly great art is bound up with "useless" skills (like writing poetry). This brings us back to our discussion on the first day:
- How useful is it to read poetry? It is very useful so you would be able to understand what others are saying
- To write it? So you your self can let others know your thoughts
- Why are you required to do it in 102? To get us ready to deal with real life people
- Are you glad that you had to read a book of poetry? Not at all
- Or was it annoying? no I wasn't
- Or both?
- What questions do you still have about poetry, or about any of the poems in the anthology? I really don't have a question
Anthology
As we come to an end of this anthology section, I don't want to say that I am happy because I really learned about interpreting poems, understanding the styles that poets use and how to interpret what the poet was trying to convey. I must however state that some poems are difficult to interpret and sometimes this can be a turnoff.
Collection
Writing a collection has been very useful. It helps you learn how to put a whole story together. You learn how to include the necessary steps in a story that help you to tie a story together. You learn the basic skills you need to write at length. It shows that writing at length is as easy at it comes. You learn how to connect one idea and write a whole story on it. Before you know it you have 15 pages with just one idea.
Group Critique
I find group critiques very important. They give you an opportunity to improve your writing. When writing there are times when you write something but when you read it out loud it sounds different from what you intended. Getting another pair of eyes on your writing can only help. They can make sure that you have no errors and all of your thoughts are organized. It will make sure that all of your writing is easy to read and comprehend.
English 102 has given me a different prospect on poems because I'm so use to composing regular writing entries and papers. Its good to discover about something that you don't do on a regular basis. At first, I was kind of skeptical of writing and learning about poetry but then I started to realize it's not so bad. Looking forward to being able to write excellent poems.
Doing the group check gave me some very useful feedback and showed me what I can improve on in my writing abilities. Having a second opinion from someone else always assists with writing because the person will probably see something different than you. Doing Group critique has supported me a lot to improve and further my skills helping me become the best of my capabilities. Having help is always a good thing so when it provides in front you why not make use it.
